Privacy Policy

How BrightJoys collects, uses and protects your information — written to be read, not skimmed past. The short version: we take what a booking needs, we keep it as long as we need it, and we never sell it to anyone.

The basics

Who we are and what this covers

BrightJoys Hospitality Limited operates the BrightJoys venue at 272 Andersons Bay Road, South Dunedin, Dunedin 9012, New Zealand. This policy covers the brightjoys.vip website, our booking forms, our email correspondence and the guest records we keep to run the venue.

It applies to everyone who books a room, hires the hall, books a private party, signs up for the newsletter or simply walks in and asks a question. If you ever want the plain-English version of anything here, ask at the desk — they're allowed to answer in plain English.

What we collect

Short list, on purpose. If we ever need more for a specific event, we'll tell you at the time.

Guest check-in at the BrightJoys front desk

Name, email, phone number, dates, guest count and any notes you add — the minimum we need to hold a room or run your event. Event bookings may include dietary requirements you choose to share.

If you join the mailing list: your email address and, if you give it, a first name. Our site also logs standard technical data (browser type, pages visited) for security and uptime — the boring kind, not the creepy kind.

We don't buy contact lists, we don't run third-party ad trackers on this site, and we don't sell or share your details with anyone. Full stop.
The why

How your information is used

Three purposes, all boring on purpose: run your booking, keep the venue safe, and — only if you asked — send you the occasional email.

Questions? Contact us

Your details are used to hold the booking, prepare the room or hall, handle payment and contact you about your stay. That's the whole list.

The newsletter is opt-in. One email a month, unsubscribe in one click, and we never pass your address to anyone else. Ever.

Gaming-area rules require us to verify age (18+) and keep limited records where the law asks. That data is stored separately, access is logged, and it's not used for marketing.
Cookies

Cookies and tracking, honestly

The site uses a small number of cookies: strictly necessary ones for the site to function, and a preference cookie that remembers your cookie choice. We don't run advertising trackers, and we don't embed analytics that follow you around the internet.

The one third-party embed we use is the Google Maps frame on the contact page — it sets its own cookies when it loads. Full details live in our Cookie Policy.

Storage & security

Where your data lives and how long it stays

Booking records live in our reservation system, access-controlled and limited to the staff who need them. Financial records are kept for the period New Zealand tax law requires; marketing data lives until you unsubscribe, then it's deleted.

We don't sell data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't move it offshore except where a supplier's system requires it — in which case it's contractually protected. If a breach ever affects you, you'll hear it from us directly, not from the news.

  • Access limited by role, logged and reviewed
  • Payment data handled by our payment provider — we never see full card numbers
  • Retention reviewed annually; anything past its use-by date goes

Your rights

What you can ask us to do

Under the Privacy Act 2020 (and GDPR where it applies), you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. We'll action requests within 20 working days — usually much faster.

Make a request

Ask and we'll show you: booking history, dietary notes you gave us, newsletter status. One email, one human answer.

If we've got something wrong — spelling, dietary notes, invoice details — tell us and we'll fix it and confirm the fix in writing.

We delete what we can, when we can. Some records (age-verification and tax documents) we must keep by law — we'll always tell you exactly what stays and why.
Privacy questions
