The house terms, in plain English
Last updated 1 September 2026. These terms cover bookings, the venue and the gaming floor. We've kept them readable on purpose — if anything here is unclear, ask us and we'll explain it like a person.
The basics
BrightJoys is a physical venue at 272 Andersons Bay Road, South Dunedin, operated by BrightJoys Hospitality Limited. Using this website, making a booking or visiting the venue means you accept these terms. We update them occasionally — the date at the top always shows the current version.
Everything on this site describes real rooms, real services and real prices. Nothing here is an invitation to gamble online: our gaming floor exists in the building, on Andersons Bay Road, and nowhere else.
- Bookings are made with humans, confirmed in writing
- Prices are in New Zealand dollars, GST inclusive
- The venue is 100% offline — no online tables, no apps

The venue runs on two rules: look after the guests, and keep the place somewhere people want to come back to. In practice that means:
- Check-in from 2 PM, check-out by 10 AM (later by arrangement)
- Photo ID at check-in — it's a licensed venue
- Quiet hours after midnight on the room floors
- Guests are responsible for their visitors; house rules apply to everyone
Management may refuse service or end a stay where safety or the law requires it. We don't do it often, and we don't do it lightly.
The gaming floor
Our gaming area operates under New Zealand gambling law, inside the venue only. The short version of the house rules:
- 18+ only, ID required — no exceptions, no "but it's my birthday"
- Buy-ins by card or cash; house limits are posted at every table
- Staff can pause or end play where responsible-gaming rules apply
- Self-exclusion requests are honoured immediately and without questions
Events, catering & private hires
Function bookings are confirmed by written quote and deposit. Numbers can move until 72 hours before the event; catering is billed on the confirmed count or the actual covers, whichever is higher. Outside caterers only by prior arrangement, and the hall must be left as it was found — the bond covers the rest.

Liability & the law
We take reasonable care of guests and their belongings, but the building isn't a bank — leave valuables at the desk, not in cars. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law says it can't be limited. These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and any disputes are handled by New Zealand courts.
